Alphamatician is looking for a Data Pipeline Engineer to take ownership of key components of the data collection infrastructure that powers our alternative data platform.

This is a hands-on engineering role. You will monitor, maintain, and improve production systems that collect data daily from dozens of web sources, clean and map it to company identifiers, and deliver it to institutional clients. You will own multiple data collection processes end to end.

What You Will Do:

• Monitor the data pipeline and error logs across multiple collection processes
• Diagnose and resolve data quality issues by working across the codebase, the database, and the underlying infrastructure
• Own the full lifecycle of data collection processes, from source scraping through cleaning, mapping, and loading
• Maintain and improve scraping and parsing logic as source websites change
• Work with production MySQL databases on AWS and manage data integrity across large-scale datasets
• Contribute to platform documentation and operational processes

Tech Stack:

• Core application: PHP (CodeIgniter 4)
• Supporting tools and sub-projects: Python and Node.js
• Database: MySQL on AWS RDS
• Infrastructure: AWS (EC2, RDS)

What We Are Looking For:

• 3–6 years of experience with data pipelines, ETL processes, or web scraping infrastructure in a production environment
• Strong working knowledge of PHP is required. Experience with Python or Node.js is a plus
• Solid MySQL skills, including query optimization and troubleshooting at scale
• Experience with AWS, particularly RDS, EC2 and S3
• Comfort with web scraping and the unpredictability of external data sources
• Self-directed work style with the ability to manage priorities independently

Nice to Have:

• Experience in financial data, alternative data, or fintech
• Experience with CodeIgniter or MVC PHP frameworks
• Understanding of data mapping, entity resolution, or securities identifiers (tickers, ISINs)

Alphamatician is seeking an experienced Business Development professional to help expand our client base within the institutional investment community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Generate leads and build relationships with hedge funds, asset managers, and other institutional investors
• Develop and execute sales and marketing strategies
• Maintain and deepen existing client relationships
• Identify new market opportunities and use cases for our alternative datasets

Requirements:

• A minimum of three years of experience in sales or business development with a proven track record
• Working knowledge of the institutional investment landscape, particularly quantitative or systematic strategies
• Experience with alternative data, financial data, or data products is a strong plus
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

We are looking for a Data Analyst to support the operation and improvement of our web data collection and production systems. Our platform collects, cleans, and structures data from dozens of web sources daily, and this role is central to keeping that system running smoothly.

You will work directly with our data collection processes — setting up, monitoring, troubleshooting, and improving them. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically curious, and comfortable taking ownership of problems in a small team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, set up, maintain, and improve web data collection processes
• Troubleshoot data capture issues across the full pipeline
• Contribute to best practices in data collection and quality assurance
• Develop and implement tools to improve efficiency and reliability

Skill Requirements:

• Solid understanding of SQL in a MySQL environment
• Working knowledge of HTML and web page structure
• Experience with PHP and/or Python
• Independent thinker and problem solver

• Strong communication skills and comfort working in a small, low-overhead environment

Education and Experience:

• A bachelor’s degree in an IT-related or engineering field, or equivalent practical experience
• Familiarity with the financial services sector is a plus

This role is remote and US-based.

Alphamatician offers internships across data collection, data quality, and engineering. Interns work directly with production datasets used by institutional investors, gaining hands-on experience with real-world data systems and alternative data.
